Chapter 4: Swarming storm
~
The sun was shining brightly behind dark clouds. A soft breeze blew through the palm trees of Destiny Islands. There were a lot of crows around, oddly.

Sora walked alone on the sand and he looked very fidgety and anxious. He was obviously scared of all the crows, it felt like they were watching him. He eyed the clouds with unease, was it just him or were the clouds getting darker and darker by the hour?
Sora shook his head and wiped the fear out of his face. He mentally told himself to think positive and it worked.
"What are you doing Sora?"
Sora spun around and smiled in relief.
"Looking for you, Riku." He answered.
The silver haired boy was perplexed and he raised an eye brow.
"You noticed that I was gone?" He asked.
Sora huffed and crossed his arms.
"Of course I did! Jeez, you're my best friend Riku. I would be pretty shallow if I didn't notice that you were gone. We've been friends for years Riku! If you go missing I'm bound to worry and search for you." Sora said leaving Riku speechless.
Riku finally broke the silence saying, "What if I did something bad? Would you search for me then?"
Sora uncrossed his arms and he tilted his head to the side.
"Depends what you did but I would search the universe for you since that's what friends do."
"Can you keep to those words?"
"Yes, Riku I promise to always search for you if you go missing no matter what you do."

Sora and Riku walked together on the darkening beach.
"Looks like a storm's coming." Sora said as he looked up at the clouds.
Riku looked at the ground as they walked; obviously he had something on his mind.
"I wonder where Kairi is today? She's probably off with Selphie somewhere as usual." Sora said, not noticing Riku tense at the mention of Kairi's name.
Riku clenched his fist but he kept his cool.
"You like Kairi don't you?" Riku asked.
"Sure, you do too right?" Sora answered as his eyes trailed to Riku's.
"Not like that Sora. I mean, do you like her more than a friend?" Riku asked.
"Like a best friend?" Sora asked curiously.
Riku sighed, sometimes Sora was so naive.
"No, more."
"Girlfriend?"
"Yeah, that."
"Umm... Nope."
Riku's eyes widened at the brunette.
"What?! But I thought you two loved each other."
Sora burst out laughing and then he noticed the glare Riku was giving him.
"Oh, you're serious. I don't love her in that way I don't think, besides: I don't want to have a girlfriend right now. I love my freedom." Sora replied as they both stopped walking.

"Come on, let's go find some fruit or something. I'm starving." Sora said but Riku didn't seem to be listening, he was staring off into space.
Sora rolled his eyes and he grabbed Riku's wrist and pulled him along.
"You're so distant these days Riku, it's like you're a totally different person."
Riku stayed silent and he walked after his best friend who was still holding his wrist, gently.
Riku's eyes wandered down to Sora's hand on his wrist. It wasn't the same as holding hands but it still felt good.
'Sora, you will end up getting hurt soon. I hope you don't stick to your promise to search for me. No matter what happens though, I will still consider you my friend, my best friend.' Riku thought.
~
Sora let go of Riku's wrist when they came to their secret cave.
"I thought you were hungry?" Riku asked.
"I am but I feel like I have to be here." Sora said as he entered the cave.
Sora called to Riku, "Come on! Do I have to pull you again?!
Riku mouthed, 'yes' but he went into the cave anyway.

Riku found Sora staring intently at the door.
"It's glowing..." Sora murmured.
The brown door with no knob or keyhole was indeed glowing. Actually the gold decorations on it were.
Sora reached out to touch it but Riku pulled him back saying, "Don't. It could be dangerous."
Sora asked, "Why? It's just a door; doors aren't dangerous they're welcoming."
Sora had no idea how wrong he was but Riku knew.
"Come on, let's go." Riku said as he grabbed Sora's arm and pulled him to the exit.
~
Kairi walked on the dark beach casually and she spotted her two friends, one she had a crush on.
"Sora, Riku!" Kairi called and waved.
The scarlet haired girl ran over to the two boys.
"Hey Kairi!" Sora greeted with a smile.
Riku nodded as a greeting and he seemed detached.
"I didn't think you guys would be here since Selphie, Wakka and Tidus are back on the main land." Kairi said.
"Well it is pretty stormy!" Sora replied and he shifted his attention to the silverette.
"Hey Riku, is something wrong? You seem troubled." Sora asked politely.
The wind started to pick up and it blew some sand, luckilly not in the trio's direction.
"It's time, Dark One."
The three turned around to see a cloaked figure who pulled back their hood to reveal their face.

The stranger had emerald eyes with black triangles tattooed under them. His hair was red and extremely spiky and it looked like a flare of red.
"Who are you?" Sora asked.
Sora and Kairi were standing behind Riku.
"My name is Axel. A-X-E-L, got it memorized?" The stranger said as he gestured to his temple.
Sora and Kairi exchanged confused glances and they were surprised when Riku stepped forward.
"The door is ready then?" Riku asked.
Axel nodded.
"Door?" Kairi asked.
Sora was just as confused as her.
Riku turned to them and put his hands out as if to stop them. Suddenly a glassy force field was created separating Sora and Kairi from Riku and Axel.
Riku turned away from them and he headed to the secret cave with Axel.
"Riku!" Sora and Kairi both called in unison.
Riku didn't look back.

Sora and Kairi wern't sure what to do.
"Kairi, go back to the main land and go get help." Sora said as he turned to Kairi.
"But..."
"Kairi, go! I'll stay here and find a way in." Sora said.
"Ok."

Sora watched Kairi run and he watched her scarlet hair sway in the wind while his own was swaying around too.
Sora turned to the force field and he put his palms on it.
It felt like what it looked like, glass.
'How do I get in?! There has to be a way! I'm not going to give up, I promised to follow him no matter where he goes and what he does. Riku, what are you doing? I need you.'
A crack was heard and Sora saw that the force field had a crack in it where his right palm currently was.

'Did I do that? I need you Riku.' Sora thought and more cracks began to form.
'It's odd but I think my emotions are making the cracks.' Sora thought.
Sora glared at the force field, trying to summon up all his anger.
'Tidus breaking my necklace,'
More cracks appeared, huge ones.
No matter hard Sora tried, his emotions turned from anger to sadness.
'Riku, not telling me where he goes... Him leaving me behind this barrier without glancing back.'
The last thought seemed to be full of enough emotion and the force field shattered a hole big enough for Sora to get through.
'Riku, I'm coming after you whether you like it or not.' Sora thought as he ran through the hole without hesitation.
Sora hadn't noticed the clouds turning black or how the crows seemed to be flying around in a ring above the island. Something was about to happen, something big!

Author's comments: So the mystery figure that Riku had been chatting to was Axel. I told you my story was going to be different from the real one. Some things may be the same as the real one and there will be some spoilers.
Sora still hasn't got a Keyblade yet, interesting.
